This Sunday, like every time, I took my bike out for a ride. I actually have a grand plan of doing a very big road trip which covers around 2000 km on a whole. So as to do such stuff, I need to build my riding stamina and endurance. Ergo, I’m doing these short trips to places around me to improve my riding skills and capacity.
I’ve actually learned that doing shorter trips and increasing the distance gradually by levelling up will actually boost my capacity to stay on the motorcycle for longer distances and also help me in covering greater distances.
I have begun this practice by riding every Sunday morning to places nearby. I started off initially with a 45 kilometer ride on one Sunday, upgraded to 60 kilometers the coming Sunday and then did an 80 kilometer ride on another Sunday. And finally, yesterday…I did my first 100 km ride.
When I mean 60 km ride and 100 km ride, I mean the distance to reach the destination is 60 km and the round trip would be 120 km and vice versa.
This Sunday, I decided to go to a place called “Annavaram” which was around 125 kilometers from my house. It is a famous pilgrimage and attracts devotees from all over AP. Strictly speaking; my intention isn’t visiting the temple. I would be happy to and I was willing to visit it. But it wasn’t the sole purpose. The actual motive behind choosing this spot was the fact that it was nearly 100 km from my place and that was it. I needed to a bigger ride this time. And a 100 km ride is definitely something I’ve had to do to improve my riding skills.
So now coming to the journey part… I’ve actually managed to wake up early this time. Though I slept at 11 in the night, I was successfully able to wake up at 3am in the morning. After a cold shower and a hot coffee… I dressed up, packed my riding gear and left to the bunk.

After some waiting in the queue at this time in the morning for petrol, I topped up the fuel and I clicked a picture of that bunk, wore my gloves and left to Annavaram.
The journey towards Annavaram was dreadful and till

date, the most difficult journey I ever had. Whereas returning was calm and relaxed.
I actually forgot to wipe the dust and dirt off my helmet visor. That was one hell of a mistake. Because, after a few minutes…it started drizzling. Once I escaped the city and hit the highway, it started raining very badly. And I had nearly zero visibility of the road. The dusty visor wasn’t helping either. Luckily, apart from wearing a leather jacket, I also carried a windcheater of mine. So I made a pit stop and changed into my windcheater and took a handkerchief of mine and cleaned the visor and my spectacles. In spite of the rain, I carried on my journey. After riding for around 60 kilometers from Vizag, the rain finally stopped. In this gap, I was very hungry. I was told that there are two café coffee days between Vizag and Annavaram which were open 24/7. But they weren’t. One CCD was after crossing Anakapalle and another was at Tetagunta. Both of them were situated at the HP petrol bunk. But both of them were shut by the time I went there. So I was starving all the way long.

After that nasty rain stopped, I then switched to my jacket and rode straight to Annavaram. Due to the rain, I couldn’t ride faster and my average speed was as low as 50 km/hr. and that actually sucks. Later on, it increased to 80 km/hr. After a three hour ride, I finally reached Annavaram, had some food and started my journey back without climbing on to the hill. I couldn’t visit the temple as I was running short of time.
I started my journey back home and this time, it was quicker. I managed to reach home under 2 hours. After this ride, I understood that it was a special experience to ride in such a difficult condition. Low visibility, total rain, cold weather and annoying high beam light from other vehicles on my eyes. All of this makes the ride unexpected and fun. While riding…it was a pain in the ass. But looking back, it feels good and nice that I managed to endure it all.

One WOW thing was the fact that I saw a rider on my way who was headed to HYD. And he was riding Triumph Bonneville. Fucking awesome.
So finally, this is it. My first 100 kilometer ride.
To sum it up… Rain, endurance, fun, sunrise, speed, scenery, beauty and all together made this a memorable experience and the best ride I’ve ever done.
Looking forward to the next week’s ride.
